Greetings everyone,

We'd like to thank you again for volunteering your time and energy to becoming a site liaison at your prospective school.  We are excited about the potential impact this will have.  As a Community Advisory Committee (CAC) member and mom to a PEC Kindergarten student, I will be taking this role on at Bella Vista Elementary this year. Along with Barbara Kass, a Resource Specialist, we will be your point persons within the CAC.

After a great planning session last Sunday, we feel we have identified 3 key goals to get you going in this role. We understand we are all busy transitioning our children into a new school year, but it is very important that we get going as soon as the school year begins, as our first, and very important, CAC meeting of the school year, is on Sept. 10th. We would love to have a large turnout, and have new people join us for the potluck as well! Children are of course welcome.

Initial Goals:

  1. Build relationships with school staff: principal, teachers, special ed. parents, etc.
Of course some of you, especially those who have been at their school for some time, may have already done this.
Please make sure they know that the primary role of the CAC is to help families become actively involved in their child's education.
  2. Distribute CAC information to all Special Ed. families/ special ed staff at your school site: CAC brochures, CAC upcoming meetings, and meeting agendas as they become available.
It would be great if you are able to post these on some type of community bulletin board in a main hallway.
Attached is the flyer for our first CAC meeting of the school year in English and Spanish.
  3. Be a resource to the school, possibly by briefly acquainting others to the CAC at a school meeting (PTA or SSC)

We would love to be able to assist you in taking this step in any way possible, and also hear your ideas as your role of site liaison. Please feel free to contact us through email.

Looking forward,
